The 11th annual Portland & SW Washington Buddy Walk is just a few weeks away and we can’t wait to celebrate with you! Are you a dancing fan? Bev and the Boys will be on stage with all your Rock and Blues favorites. Thanks to the generosity of several local businesses, we will be eating well on September 26th. Gustav’s Pub & Grill is donating sausages for everyone, and Starbucks is sending hot coffee and cocoa. Just in case it’s too warm for hot cocoa, we’ll also have Dreyer’s ice cream on hand! New Seasons is donating reusable bags for the kids’ goody bags, which include a nutritious Clif snack, temporary tattoos, and lots of fun toys. Mingle with old friends and new as your kids get their faces painted and play carnival-style games. We have some great speakers lined up, and as usual we are collecting a variety of excellent raffle prizes. There’s sure to be something for everyone!
You have marked September 26th on your calendar, built a team to support your favorite walker, and soon your pledge form will be arriving in the mail. What’s next? If you haven’t registered, go to www.buddywalk.kintera.org/nwdsa to sign up online. Or just wait and send in the registration form included with your pledge form.
You can use the pledge sheet to keep track of your donations and team members. Now is the time to round up the support of all the people in your life. Invite your friends and family. Form a team at work or school. Make it a neighborhood event. Buddy Walk is a great day to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome, and it’s the perfect time to introduce new people to the NWDSA community!
Do you have friends and family who can’t make it to the walk but want to get involved? We can always use more volunteers and financial sponsorship. We are still accepting donations for raffle prizes, so if you know someone who might be interested in getting their business’s name out to our 700 guests, please let us know. We will be glad to talk to them and find a creative way for them to help out.
You can park at the Rose Garden Arena for only $2 on Buddy Walk day! No need for a special pass this year, as all parking at the Rose Garden lots will be for Buddy Walk. And remember, we are just off the MAX line, so public transportation is a great option if you don’t want to drive!
Come on out and join us as we celebrate the pride we have in our community. We all spend a lot of time working for a better world, so come on out and dance with us as we take a minute to celebrate our successes. Anyone can be a Buddy!!
